The Eagles played the first of four games in the 28th annual FCA Jason Armstrong Memorial Baseball Tournament against Trinity at Riverwalk Stadium on Wednesday afternoon. The strange game ended in with an unusual 3-3 tie due to time limitations. The first inning should have been an indicator of the wacky outcome as the two teams combined for four runs on just one hit in the frame. However, the two defenses combined for five errors, three walks, three hit batters and two passed balls which contributed directly to the runs scored in the inning. After one, ACA led by a score of 3-1.
For the next four innings a pitching duel broke out and neither team was able to add runs to their total and collected only five hits between the two offenses. Trinity finally broke through in the sixth with a run scoring ground out and scored the game tying run with two out in the seventh on an error. The game ended on that same play when the base runner was thrown out at second after the run had scored.
Brandon Bice pitched well enough to earn the victory as he allowed only one earned run on three hits in five innings with four strikeouts. Isaac Warrick worked the final two frames in relief. Mason Prestage went 1 for 2 with a double while Warrick, Jalen Clark, Preston Hicks and Trey Schlemmer each had singles in the game.
ACA continues play in the tournament on Thursday with a match up against Providence Christian at Paterson Field.
