ACA Soccer Month in Review

The 2023 soccer season began February 7th for both varsity squads with a visit to Wetumpka. For the month, the girls had a 2-3-1 record with victories over Brew Tech and BTW-Magnet and a tie with Stanhope Elmore. The Lady Eagles were beaten by Wetumpka, Houston Academy and Trinity. In the Trinity match, goalkeeper Marcy Gregory set a new school record with 51 saves. 

Presley Lewis leads the team with nine goals on the year, including a team-high six against BTW in a 10-0 shutout. Chloe Jordan has three goals while Olivia Justiss has two. Jordan leads the team with six assists and assisted all three of Lewis’ scores in a 4-1 defeat of Brew Tech. Marcy Gregory has kept the net in every game but one and has averaged 26 saves per contest. Alyssa Valentine was in goal for the season opener against Wetumpka and recorded 23 saves.

The boys finished February with a 1-5-1 record with a win over Lanier and a tie with Carrol. The team lost to Wetumpka (twice), Trinity, Catholic and Brew Tech. The highlight of the season was a 9-0 blanking of Lanier. Tommy Sutterfield found the net five times on the night while Wes Peake scored twice and Aiden Lee and Marcus Kim each scored once. 

Sutterfield leads the team with nine goals and had scored every goal on the season until the Lanier match. Emmett Sanford has played goalie in every game and has averaged just over eight saves per game.
