Volleyball and Cross Country Open Year in Athletics

The year in sports kicked off this week as the volleyball and cross country teams both participated in their first action of the year.

In volleyball, the Lady Eagles split a tri-match on Thursday at St James with a win over Tallassee before falling to the host school, St James. In game one, ACA overpowered Tallassee in two straight, 25-15, 25-5. The Eagles service game was in mid season form with 15 aces in the match. Morgan Bond and Josie Dye led the squad with four aces apiece. In the nightcap, the Lady Eagles dropped two in a row 11-25, 11-25. On the day, Taegan Scott had seven kills and three blocks while Morgan Bond had four aces, three kills and two blocks. Savannah Dorman finished with seven assists while Annabelle Pugh had six digs.

On Saturday, Kate Finch represented the varsity cross country program at the MA Cross Country Invitational in Grady. The senior runner dominated with a first place finish with a time of 20:17.84 in the girls division beating her closest competitor by more than 17 seconds. Abby Zenor and Avery Moore both finished in the Top 10 in the JV category to help ACA to a second place team finish.

ACA Week in Review - Thornton Milestone Highlights Busy Week in Volleyball

Senior Alyson Thornton became the eighth Lady Eagle to reach 1,000 career assists in program history. She reached the mark on Friday in the opening game of the Mayor’s Cup against Providence Christian. Alabama Christian won three of eight games played on the week. The week began with a loss to Trinity on Monday, but the team bounced back and split a tri-match at Catholic on Thursday by beating Carver and losing to the Lady Knights. Taegan Scott paced the offense in the trio of games with 12 kills and a team-high four blocks. Paige Henry added 10 kills while Anna Prempramot had two aces and Thornton finished with 37 assists.

ACA participated in the Mayor’s Cup over the weekend and finished 2-2 in pool play before being eliminated by Houston Academy in bracket play. The Eagles defeated Providence Christian 19-25, 25-13, 15-8 on Friday as Thornton reached the assist milestone. On Saturday, ACA defeated Prattville before losing to St Pauls, PCA and Houston Academy. Paige Henry finished with 26 kills, in the five games, to lead the squad while Taegan Scott had 20 kills and a team-leading 14 blocks. Alyson Thornton led the team with 66 assists and added 17 kills and seven aces. Anna Prempramot led the team with eight aces while Ava Oates had six and Annabelle Pugh had five.

Cross Country

The 2022 cross country season opened Saturday at the MA Cross Country Invitational in Grady. Kate Finch carried the torch as the only girl’s varsity runner as she finished third out of eight-five runners with a time of 21:32.65. Four other runners participated in the JV race.

Kate Finch Continues to Shine for ACA Cross Country

Sophomores Kate Finch and Zander Costanza were the only Eagle runners to compete in the varsity division of the 5th Annual Trinity Trailblazer. Finch placed third in the girls division out of 96 runners with a time of 20:10.96. Costanza finished 11th out of 113 competitors in the boys division with a time of 18:38.86.

in the two-mile JV run, Maddie Owens finished 5th out of a 44-runner field with a time of 18:27.92. Abby Zenor (8th), Laura Stokley (11th), Annabelle Owens (23rd) and Addi Cline (26th) also ran in the two-mile race.

Kyndall Foley Named ACA Athlete of the Week for Second Time

Kyndall Foley earned her second Athlete of the Week in her senior season with a Top 10 finish at the 4A State Championship in Oakville on Saturday. Foley finished ninth with a career best time of 20:35.73. The performance was the third fastest in school history, only 9.8 seconds off the school record. Foley was one of only two runners, boys or girls, that ran in every race this season. Her ninth place finish was her sixth Top 10 finish of her career, second most in program history.

Kyndall Foley Caps Career with Top 10 Finish at State

Kyndall Foley ended her senior season with a 9th place finish at the 4A State Championship in Oakville. Foley recorded a personal best time of 20:35.73, the third fastest time in school history, on the day. The senior owns four of the ten fastest times in program history and her 9th place finish was the sixth Top 10 finish of her career. Marlo Duggan placed 78th with a season best time of 23:24.41.

In the boys division, Connor Strowbridge turned in a time of 19:28.18 to finish 111th out of 169 racers. Lane Kilpatrick finished 119th with a time of 19:31.35. Both runners produced season best times in the last race of the year.

Four Runners Earn Spot in State Meet

After being delayed for a day due to weather, the 4A Sectional meet was run Friday in Montgomery at AUM. Four runners qualified to compete in the State Championship with their performance at the Sectional.

In the girls division, four seniors raced with Kyndall Foley and Marlo Duggan qualifying for State. Foley finished fifth with a time of 22:26.74 while Duggan recorded a season best time of 24:25.34 and placed 18th in the race. Payton DeCapite placed 46th with a time of 29:47.98 and Timia Nelson finished 51st with a season best time of 32:52.29.

In the boys division, sophomore Connor Strowbridge finished 33rd with a time of 20:24.91 and junior Lane Kilpatrick placed 36th in 20:45.12. Both Strowbridge and Kilpatrick qualified for the State Championships. James Davis finished 43rd with a time of 21:10.44 while Bryan Burleson finished 57th in 23:70.72. All four participants will return to race next year.

Alabama Christian Runs in MA Invitational

Kyndall Foley continued her strong senior season with a second place finish out of 82 runners at the MA Invitational in Grady, AL. Foley produced a season best time of 20:36.61 and continues to move closer to the school record of 20:25.93 set in 2014. Marlo Duggan finished 23rd with a time of 25:14.38 and Payton DeCapite finished 43rd with a time of 28:17.81 on the afternoon. Timia Nelson turned in a season best time of 34:37.70.

Connor Strowbridge led the Eagles in the boys division with a 40th place finish out of 120 runners and a time of 20:48.91. Bryan Burleson had a season best run of 22:54.67.

Kyndall Foley Named ACA Athlete of the Week

Several Eagle athletes had strong performances this week, but cross country runner Kyndall Foley receives the Athlete of the Week honor. Jalen Clark and Corey Landers led the football team in a road win and the volleyball team won an area match Thursday against LAMP and finished second in the Elmore County tournament.

Foley has led the girls cross country team all season, racing in every meet this year and turning in the best time for the team in each race. This week, Foley finished eighth in the Jesse Owens Classic out of 312 runners with her season best time of 20:37.25.

Alabama Christian Competes in Jesse Owens Classic

Kyndall Foley once again ran a strong race on the course in Oakville as she finished eighth out of 312 runners in the bronze division in the 21st Annual Jesse Owens XC Classic. The Jesse Owens Classic is one of the largest races of the year with five divisions for boys and girls on the varsity level and a boys and girls division for junior varsity. Foley turned in a season best time of 20:37.25. Three boys runners, Lane Kilpatrick, James Davis and Bryan Burleson, each posted season best times on the day. in the JV division, Ken Martin placed third among 447 runners and Kate Finch finished twelfth out of 287 runners in their respective races.

Eagles Run in Central Alabama Championships

Kyndall Foley was the top finisher for all varsity runners with a fourth place showing out of 70 competitors in the girls division with a season best time of 20:52.33. Marlo Duggan, Payton DeCapite, and Timia Nelson all recorded their season best time finishing 28th, 54th and 70th respectively. in the boys division, Connor Strowbridge finished 35th out of 116 runners with a time of 19:41.19. Lane Kilpatrick finished 45th and Bryan Burelson finished 93rd.

Both JV squads had strong performances on the day. In the boys division, Ken Martin and Alexander Costanza finished in the top two spots and Kate Finch finished first in the girls division. Emma Russell, Madi Armstrong and Annabelle Owens all finished in the top ten in the girls race.

The Eagles next race on October 5 in the Jesse Owens Classic.

Kyndall Foley Leads Cross Country Team in Oakville

The ACA cross country team participated in the Chickasaw Trails Invitational Saturday in one of the largest races of the season. Kyndall Foley finished 12th out of 243 runners in the small school division with a time of 21:43.93, which beat her time by more than a minute from the first race of the season. Marlo Duggan finished 91st with a time of 25:29.67 while Payton DeCapite finished 168th with a time of 28:08.31. Both runners improved their time from the first race. In the boys division, Lane Kilpatrick finished 92nd out of 322 runners with a time of 20:31.00 and Bryan Burelson finished 259th with a time of 26:00.69.

In the junior high division, Ken Martin finished second and Alexander Costanza finished 14th out of 479 runners. Kate Finch produced the top girls finish by placing 16th out of 324 runners.

Judd Hardin Wins Trinity Trailblazer at AUM

Judd Hardin began Alabama Christian’s 2019 cross country campaign with a top finish in the Trinity Trailblazer at AUM Saturday morning. Hardin, a senior, reclaimed the title he won two years ago with a time of 17:10 in the 5K race. Hardin is one of the top runners in 4A and is looking forward to a great season. In the girl’s race, Kyndall Foley had the Eagles best finish, placing fifth.

Coach Michael Britton was very pleased with the teams first outing. He stated the team was right where it needs to be and feels it will get stronger as the season progresses. Coach Britton was also very proud of Hardin and appreciates his leadership on the team.

ACA’s next meet will be September 7th in Oakville for the Chickasaw Trails Invitational.
