Alabama Christian posted a W Monday night at Opelika thanks to some late innings heroics for a 2-1 victory. Haley Ingram and Monica Willingham hit back to back solo homers to push ACA past the Bulldogs. Rose Costanza starred in the circle and picked up the win with seven innings pitched and a career high 11 strike outs.
Both pitchers controlled the first three innings as neither team was able to score until the bottom of the fourth when Opelika scored its only run of the game. The score remained the same until the top of the sixth inning. With one out in the inning, Haley Ingram connected on a 2-2 pitch and homered to center field to tie the game, 1-1. Three pitches later, Monica Willingham sent one out to center field to give the Lady Eagles the 2-1 lead. Once she was given the lead, Rose Costanza did not allow a hit over the final two innings and struck out four of the last six batters she faced.
Alabama Christian (6-6) returns home Tuesday afternoon to take on St James.
